Jeanette Bowles, Ph.D. MSW
Dr. Jeanette [Jen] Bowles, is a longtime harm reduction advocate, who has worked in Philadelphia, the South Bronx, and Puerto Rico. She was most recently an NIH-funded T32 Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California San Diego, San Diego, CA. She obtained her Doctor of Public Health degree from Drexel University in the Department of Community Health and Prevention. Her dissertation is entitled Opioid Overdose Among Persons Who Inject Drugs in Philadelphia: Witnessed Overdose Responses, Prevention Program Diffusion, and Environmental Risks.
She has a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration on policy from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Bowles continued her research assistant position investigating the effectiveness of an HIV risk reduction program. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Temple University.
Dr. Bowles served on the Mayor’s Opioid Task Force Overdose Prevention and Harm Reduction Subcommittee. She returns to Philadelphia humbled at the opportunity to work with Safehouse. She has full support and encouragement from her mentors at the University of California San Diego, Drexel University, and the University of Pennsylvania.
